The museum relies entirely on volunteers to operate. There are three main activities for volunteers.
We have an attendant on duty when the museum is open. Shifts are in the region of three to four hours with a morning and afternoon shift during the busy summer season. While the majority of our attendants live locally, a number do volunteer during their holidays in the area.
Regular working parties are held during the year, usually on a Thursday morning. During the summer, the work is mainly outdoors, with repairs to our historic wagon fleet. When the museum is closed over the winter, the opportunity is taken to carry out decorating within the museum, and refreshing the museum displays.
We are looking for volunteers to undertake some of the jobs involved in managing the collection. This includes cataloguing objects and making digital copies. Some of these tasks can be carried out from home.
We are always looking for new volunteers to assist. If you would like to find out more, please contact us by email in the first instance giving an indication of your area of interest.
